Reel Motor Replacement

For motor part number 4700-039 B. Norman, May 5, 1997

The Phi Tech reel motor part number 4700-021 has been obsoleted. Since the replacement motor (4700-039) runs in the opposite direction as the original, the connections to the new motor will be different. All other electronic and mechanical characteristics remain the same.

Below are the steps required to accomplish the replacement procedure.

1. Remove the reel belt and the motor pulley from the defective motor. Desolder the two wires from the connection tab on the motor.

2. Remove the two screws securing the defective motor to the chassis. Remove the defective motor and set aside. Discard the two screws.

3. Install the replacement motor to the deck chassis. Secure the motor to the chassis with two 2600-001 screws.

4. Slip a section of heat shrink tubing over each of the loose wires.

Note: In most instances, the existing wire harnesses for the Phi Deck will have sufficient wire length to make the connections. However, it may be that some decks will require the addition of extensions to make the connection to the new motor terminals.

5. Connect and resolder the wires to the motor:

For the supply reel motor:
For the take-up reel motor:

Connect the red wire to the + terminal on the motor.

Connect the yellow wire to the - terminal on the motor.

Connect the violet wire to the + terminal on the motor.

Connect the white/red wire to the - terminal on the motor.

6. Slip the shrink tubing over the connection and shrink with a heat gun.
